39. Hidden savings

Over last weekend, a thought was initiated by Mrs. Dutchlakehouse. My hair was starting to grow too long making me look like the bastard son of Chewbacca and cousin Itt. Hence, it was decided I should get a haircut. Ever since I can remember, this is done by either my mother or my wife. As early as from my 18th birthday I have moved out of my parent’s house into an apartment (together with some classmates) during college.

Today I count 27,5 years to make it an easy equation that means 9,5 years of not paying any hairdresser.

Same goes for the gym. Even during college I absolutely did NOT like to rent stuff. Even my dumbells I bought for myself. Seen that we lived in a city with a beautiful beach and boulevard this meant great swimming = free!. Together with our (fraternity boys and girls…) habit of going skinny dipping (nothing more, nothing less, and unobstructed by any insecurities) I am sure that no gym subscription would guarantee same amount of calories burnt.

Put in a short equation leaving some variables out and
  • Averaging a haircut fee to 20EUROs per visit;
  • Taking a 3 visits per year (is that about right?);
  • Taking an average of 20 EUROs per month for gym subscription (that is even excluding any 1st time sign up fee).

I come to a 3000EURO saving. Counted over 10 years. I’m happy with that!

If you want to know why I referred to this post as being: Want to know how I earned hundreds of euros with only one bad haircut? Well.. all first times are difficult. So is cutting hair apparently;) I was my wife's first hair-cutting-experiment after her sisters Barbydolls.

Kind regards and have an awesome day.
